I'm not convinced; would you know them? Consider the times when you are asleep but not dreaming; do you experience silence and darkness? I don't think I experience anything at all.

What about when you're awake with your eyes closed? Remember I said that you would know them but not understand them, if you get what I'm saying.

Perhaps I should've said you would only experience silence and darkness but not know what they are.

You would experience silence and darkness and not know what they are...but would you actually be aware of them? If you've never seen light and never heard sound, could you be aware of silence and darkness? I am aware of silence because I walk into a quiet room. I am aware of darkness because I turn off the light. If darkness and silence are all that I knew and never saw anything, would I be aware of them?

The best way to describe what I am trying to say is this: Pretend there is another sense out there that humans don't have. Can we imagine it? Not at all! There is no way to even comprehend what that sense is. Obviously we are experiencing the absence of whatever it is that we wouldn't be sensing, but we are not aware of it at all.

Maybe you are only aware of something if you assign that thing as a concept in your mind. If you live on a planet with no light, and aliens land and tell you all about sight, you would not be able to imagine light, but you would be aware of it as an abstract concept Now if they told you that not light is called dark, and thats where they your species lives, you would be aware of darkness too. But before then you did not have a concept for dark, and therefore were unaware of it.

^Yes, that makes perfect sense. Now, back to the original topic - if you had no senses...You are aware of darkness because someone tells you that there is a thing called light. You are using your ears when told this. If you were deaf, this wouldn't work. If you had absolutely no senses at all, how could you be aware of anything? If you aren't aware before you are told, then if there is no way to tell you, you would be unaware. Therefore, you would be unaware of everything if you had no senses whatsoever.

I understood; but I mean, if you are awake, your eyes and ears are still working, even if there is no light or sound in the room. I would suggest that silence and darkness are perceptions.
